Tarantula

Tuesday, July 18th, 2017

The Sonoran Desert is full of wonderful creatures, one being the Tarantula.  They are wonderful yet a little scary but by far not dangerous. Their venom is weak but if irritated enough they could pack a powerful bite.

The Tarantula is a nocturnal hunter, preying mostly on smaller insects like grasshoppers, beetles, and other smaller spiders.

They live most of their lives in their silk lined burrows, only venturing short distances for their meals.

The male lives about 10-12 years, is covered in black hairs over most of his body and his abdomin is covered in red hairs. He is thinner and lankier then the female Tarantula. She is tan in color and living longer then her male counterpart.

The monsoon storms really brings them out of hiding along with many other wondrous desert dwellers.

If your planning a visit to the Tucson area plan time for a nature outing with one of Southwest Trekking Professional Guides.

Southwest Trekking Professional Guiding Service is prepared to taylor an adventure just for you.
