They’re Back!

Wednesday, March 30th, 2016

Scan the trail ahead and mind your footing if you go off trail because they’re back! Be careful out there and give them plenty of distance when going around. The below pic is one on a rock that is a popular jump in the middle of the trail out at Honeybee trails in Oro Valley, AZ (north Tucson). Photo courtesy of Wendi Lucas.

Prickly Pear Pads

Friday, March 25th, 2016

It’s that time of year for new pads to sprout from the Prickly Pears! They also go by the name of cladodes or napoles/napolitos and are edible. Just be sure to take the spines off! Ouch! Many grocery stores sell them here in AZ.

This golden barrel cactus grows on the grounds of the JW Marriott where SWT runs daily hiking and mountain bike guides. The nick name of this cactus is the “mother in law”.

Can you guess ow many ribs are on this barrel cactus?
