She exclaimed about the experience, and you will too! We’ve got the lights, the bikes and the know how, all we need is you to make the adventure complete. Mule deer frolic

Monday, September 24th, 2012

There was a group of mule deer just off the Hidden Canyon loop this morning for the morning hike! Just after we passed them they began to run and bound. At first I thought I might finally get to see a mountain lion on the hunt, but after much observation it would seem they were just frolicking around! The zigzagged the hill bounding over large shrubs for almost ten minutes!! There was no predator in sight although it could have been a rattler that got them started. It was a beautiful sight to behold five deer bounding zigzagging apparently for sheer joy!

Free Bike Safety Class

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Announcement from Pima County regarding free bike safety classes. Visit  www.bikeped.pima.gov for more information and to make reservations.

Returning students are coming across the newly laid street car tracks. They pose a new obstacle in the already overwhelming world of university navigation. The campus area is littered with hazards that pose a personal threat to bikers safety. Pima County is attempting to mitigate those risks through a series of safety courses.

FREE CLASSES

The free hour long bike safety classes around the University of Arizona campus are offered this month on the following dates:

• Sept. 13 – 10:30 a.m.

• Sept. 19 – 9 a.m.

• Sept. 25 – 9:30 a.m.

Participants are asked to call 243-2453 to reserve a spot and will be given information about the meeting location.

Riders must bring a bicycle in good working condition. Riders will get their choice of either a free bike helmet, bike lights set or a U-lock.

TIPS FOR CROSSING TRACKS

• Keep your eyes peeled for tracks in the road. Some riders may not notice them until it’s too late.

• Cross tracks between a 60 and 90 degree angle to avoid getting tires wedged in them.

• Tracks are made from concrete and steel and can be extremely slippery dry or wet, reducing tire traction.

• Be aware that your normal route might be affected by streetcar construction, which is ongoing, and you may have to take various detours. For the latest on the construction visit: tucsonstreetcar.com/construction.htm

• Pavement conditions will vary in construction and detour areas. Watch out for construction debris.
