Fishhook Barrel Cactus….

(Ferocactus wislizenii)


Also known as the compass cactus due to the fact that mature cacti tend to lean to the Southwest. It also produces some amazing flowers and a beautiful bright yellow pear-shaped fruit pictured above!

Red tailed hawks are carnivores that soar the skies in search of rodents and other small prey.

Hawks have eyesight 8 times that of a human and belong to the category of birds known as raptors.

Springtime Saguaro blooms!

Carnegiea gigantea – Saguaro

This protected native cactus is also the official state flower of Arizona.

These giants typically bloom May through June with beautiful 3 inch white flowers,

and can grow up to 50 feet in height!

Saguaros live in the upland of the Sonora Desert up to 4,000 ft in elevation

and are utilized by birds for habitat.
